Why are there so many children living on the streets of Mwanza?

Many come from broken or impoverished homes, or are orphans. Some run away from home for a while and then are too ashamed or traumatised to return.

See the research / background page for more details.

Are any other organisations working with street children in Mwanza?

There are several different organisations that work with street children - some with safe houses for girls especially. However, very few recognise the foundational spiritual needs of the children as we do. And we feel that it's not enough just to take children off the street and into 'orphanage'-style houses - they need to be reunited with families wherever possible, for their own emotional and psychological benefit.

Some of the other organisations are:

  • TCRC (Tanzania Children Rescue Centre)
  • A new centre for girls in Bwiru, on the outskirts of Mwanza.
  • Bujora orphanage centre (about 30 mins drive from Mwanza)

We want to work together with these organisations and others to offer the best help to the children who need it most.
